Holbeam Cottage

    Holbeam Cottage

We engaged with the architect’s clear brief to build a new roof and wall frame over an old stone barn converting it into a very contemporary kitchen and living space. The roof trusses are in planed and oiled oak with stainless steel tie and bespoke stainless steel nodes inspired by the work of French engineer Camille Polonceau. The oak principal rafters taper, exaggerating the perspective and adding elegance to the open space above. Our glass glazing and joinery associates supplied and fitted the very large opening doors to the patio area, the primary frame elements to this elevation are from air dried timber to mitigate the problems of shrinkage challenging the door operation.
