This self-build project is another good example of a hybrid solution combining exposed oak frames with prefabricated softwood panels and conventional cut roofs and floors forming the superstructure from concrete slab to completed structural shell. This really squeezes out the best value of and extensive oak frame, expressing it more fully in the spaces used most such as the double height cosy sitting room with storey and a half simpler post and beam elements for the remainder of the house in combination with structural panel partitions providing economic room spaces within the roof void. The contemporary style works nicely alongside the exposed elegant curved sling brace trusses that afford the room light and airy space.
