How we do it: Design
Timber Frame Design
We have developed a simple design approval process that follows a qualified enquiry and an initial design meeting. We start by preparing a 3d Sketch Scheme proposal that communicates our ideas graphically. These aid clarity in communicating the frame proposal and as an accurate basis for budget estimates. We work with CAD software to produce 3d models and 2d linework and graphics.
Following the acceptance of the design proposal and estimate, we expect to engage with the broader design team including architects and structural engineers, recommending our associates for these roles if required. Working with the team we will develop a full set of Approval Drawings that are highly detailed and contain information such as material specifications, timber sizes, their orientation and joinery connections for dimensional and structural approval. Once approved, these drawings will be used as the basis for our in-house Construction Drawings for the carpentry workshop, for building regulation approval with a structural engineer’s supporting calculations, builder’s reference on site and as a measure of the accuracy of our work. At this point final quotes will be issued prior to the start of the construction phase.
Involving us early on in the development of a project can often avoid costly redesigns. We are keen to help clients and other professionals understand the general principles of frame design and our objective is to ensure that our specialist skills add quality and value at every stage of a scheme’s development.
