In 2002, The Timber Frame Company helped to realise the vision of architect Peter Smithson's design for a Wooden Obelisk. Last weekend the obelisk was raised in its new home and a party was held to celebrate the event.
To further commemorate the occasion, the obelisk's owner and patron, Niall Hobhouse has published a book - Peter Smithson. Obelisk 2002, available now on Apple iBooks and Amazon.
Peter Smithson (1923- 2003) often worked in partnership with his wife Alison and together they were highly influential architects, particularly in the field of urban architecture and 'new brutalism'. Their work included Robin Hood Gardens in East London and a number of projects at the University of Bath.
