The frame is delivered as a kit of parts, neatly stacked on the lorry. Each member has a carpentry mark that tells the carpentry team where it goes in the finished frame.
A crane is normally used to quickly unload the lorry, move timbers from the stacks to the framing areas and to assemble the frame elements. Once assembled, the elements are lifted into place and fitted, before being pegged securely with hand drawn oak pegs.
In some cases, self-builders have particular duties under the HSE's Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 . Your responsibilities may include adequate public liability insurance, site safety and welfare facilities. We will advise you of our safety and welfare requirements in advance, and will always provide a risk assessment and method statement before any site work begins.
